I have replaced pans in 2 type 3's. I have put a front clip on a Type 34.
This was about 5 years ago. I think I have gotten my money out of it.

You have a Euro spec car. I do not have any specs, on that distributor.
With combination mechanical/vacuum advance, Yes you could be going past 30*

How far did you drive it without the belt??
I would definitley adjust the valves. You will probably find them all tight.

With that sensor in it, it is not NOS anymore. I would check the case over very good for signs of debris from the tapping.

Also, there are 2 different length rods depending which pump you use.

If you have an engine with an alternator, or a generator with the regulator exposed, it is no problem to steal a VW. Jumper wire from the B+ to the #1 on the coil, and give the car a push to start it ...
