If the main was leaking the clutch disc is oil soaked so you will need clutch kit and the rear seal replaced. Try googling "VW Clubs" in your area and they can hook you up.

So it was laying in the front? Look in that area for smashed wires that must be shorting across and causing every thing to blink.

You got a wire mixed up recheck your work. The white is hot all the time (4 way flashers) and and the switched hot wire is for the turn signals.

Cut a piece from your old hose for the filler end and slip the 2 1/4" hose over it.
