Yep, that's exactly what I did when I replaced my alternator two years ago. No issues.

If the first step into the bore for the cover isn't damaged, you can run the case as is. With minimal damage to the first step you could just add some silicone to the o-ring and maybe get a good sea ...

I would go with a stock cam personally. Ljet is fussy enough and gets angry with funky cams.
