I’d rather go with the Volkzbitz. He’s cheaper, and I know I’ll get a perfectly restored German Solex 34 pict 3.

Vern, you were right. Both wheel cylinders were bad. The one on the right was not too bad—just a little sluggish—but the one on the left had a seized piston on the front-shoe side. When I took it o ...

They look great!

I think I have the same belts, only in tan. The female receptacles were a bit weird. Where they attach to the tunnel, mine don’t sit flat. If I turn them to sit flat, then the ...

Your pushrod should only have 1/4 inch of freeplay at the top of the pedal, before encountering the touch of resistance. This is done by hand only. Your foot won’t feel this resistance because it’s ...

Place your jackstands at the two skinny arms of the framehead. They’re behind t ...

Lol, I didn’t help. The guy just used one of my photos as an example. I wrote and pretended to complain. We had a laugh, and I bought one of his stickers.

Waxhead—the guy who sells those stickers—used my old and busted sticker on my engine to show an old and busted sticker in his ad. I repainted my fan shroud and bought a new one from him.

Here’s a ...

I forgot to add that the Sun Bugs came with brown carpeting, and door cards. They also had brown leatherette seats with yellow corduroy inserts.

I will be using flare wrenches, for certain.

I’ll have to check out that T fitting again, so I can understand where to jam a screwdriver, or loosen the hold-down bolt ... or replace it temporarily ...

Thanks, Zund.

In my search, one poster said he had to first remove the T-fitting bolt. But that seemed like a bit of extra work that I’d rather not do unless necessary to get vice grips on the T. ...

And yes, that rusty rim is a Lemmerz rim that came on the Sun Bugs.

Someone has simply painted your Sun Bug exterior white.

To get OEM shocks, Wolfsburg West sells stock oil-filled Sachs/Boge.

The Lemmerz wheels are missing, as well as the fancy horn button, but, with what you have left, I’d say you own a 1974 Sun Bug.

I once owned a 1968 auto-stick in the mid-seventies, and I never used the low gear. We used 1st in town, and at 53 mph on the freeway, we shifted to second.
