I have two iMacs. A 21.5 inch and a 27. Great machines. Iíve been an Apple guy since 1993. Craigslist or apple refurbished is the way to go. Of course, if you buy off CL you need to trust the seller

Bushings and coupler would cause your gear shifter to have a lot of slop. The forward most bushing fails quite commonly. Get a helper to move your shifter around while you watch the coupler.

Iíve seen cables start snapping strands. This causes cable stretch but you tighten the wing nut and it just stretches more. Doesnít seem to be your case.

Might be the needle bearing going. Not too ...

Does the pedal free play seem to change and then change back or is it just the difficulty in changing gears that changes?

When you buy the kit from air cooled.net they give you a choice of linkage. Donít buy the redline linkage.

Just make something. Iíd either use a thin tie wrap or a couple turns of .032 safety wire.

What Gary is saying is you have a 1982 rebuild. Then a recent piston cylinder swap and really poor workmanship including rocker arm geometry.

Best to find a quality long block rebuilder and start ...
