I kept my 180mm flywheel and bought a 12 volt starter with a gear to match. the 6 volt tooth pitch. Works great. I have a stock single port 1600 so the smaller clutch has never been a problem for me.

Pull the drums off and check the hardware. Could be some rusty springs or drum surfaces.
