Never heard that yarn before. Never heard of anybody doing that. Never wiped mine down, never had one come loose, expect it is more of an excuse for forgetting to tighten properly than a reality.

Worth every penny! Been worth it since the 70's. I get five other automotive rags, most of them are at least $6 per issue if you buy at the stand, subscriptions are the best way.

If it is thick then it is the spacer although I have never seen a split spacer. If it is a circlip it should of been holding the output flange on, was there a clip holding it?

The 74 super will not. For standards the assemblies are listed as 68-69 then 70-77, as to why and if the spacing is the same no clue.

Both sides of those rockers needed trimming for that adjuster, rockers are still usable, trim the bottom, there is lots of meat still there.

I have never been able to use those without grinding the rocker arm down, it prevents the cup from hitting the base of the rocker arm on the down stroke whether you have geometry right or wrong.
