Seperate fusing of the rad fan and compressor clutch would make it safer.

As mentioned, yes.

Here's a vid showing the process. Reinstalling the core w/out a key becomes tricky because you need to depress each wafer (the key would have done that).

I removed a Stabilus from my van that was 300 N (67 lb) but I don't know if it was oem or a replacement. 250 lb struts held up the hatch with two mtn bikes on a Fiamma rack.

You can absolutely drive with the fantastic fan open, its rated for it and I do it regularly.
