So I found the problem is that the switch shorts to ground during the first bit of movement, then when the plunger gets towards the end of it's throw it is no longer shorted. Pretty much what I expect ...

I just measured the passenger side in my 69 Beetle, which is loose but intact. It was 1/4" thick, tar paper/styrofoam/tar paper

Good point Paul W made about the year of the body. Theres a reason VW put slots into the engine lid when they went to the 60hp dual port motor.

Aftermarket gauge panels are usually for 67 and earlier cars. The panels for the later padded dash models are physically smaller. So for the later cars you don't really have an option besides DIY

the power going to the fuses is common (brass strip connection between the two) , so there should be no way for the power to not be going TO both fuses, unless there is something very wrong with your ...

Price around here have actually come down a bit.... mostly finding $2.85-$2.95 now, unless it's the last gas station before you hit the interstate LOL Was typically up to just a bit over $3

If I'm not mistaken, isn't there an adjustable stop for the pitman arm? MAybe you just need to adjust that a half turn to keep the tire from rubbing
