yes it is partly melted. But what is it for?

And Im wondering if it has to do with the car sometimes stalling while driving.

I took the van to the mechanic and the cables from the main battery was fried.

The cables were replaced but there is one cable that the mechanic overlooked and im wondering what this is for.

Dont think it has anything to do with muffler. Since it ran great after you replaced the filters I'm wondering if you don't have some crud in your gas tank? So ran well then filters got clogged again ...

Hold on, If you have raw fuel smell, maybe hold off on the pulling off of the spark plug wires.
