The trans mount is the same as an oval, you are right...only difference is the stud size. Good news, if you end up cutting out that aftermarket metal mount and install a bus nose cone and hockey stick ...

If the guide plate is too tight, you won't even get the lifter past the guide plate. Just bend the tab over, loosen the guide and adjust until the lifter slides through with no resistance.
