Thanks WT. So with the piece of wood and spirit level attached, shim on bottom I adjust the big nut until bubble in centre.

Seems to me you’re over thinking it. Bottom loose, correct?

Yes they're both loose (see pic).
Crank the spindle to full lock. Strike the casting where the joint passes through.

Thanks Dave, I've seen some fluted aluminium sheet that might be perfect for this, the uneven surface allows quick cooling as air goes over it, easier to fit than internal as well Smile
