When I pulled the gas tank on my March 65 Square; it was marked "USA" on the bulkhead, in the same yellow grease pencil used to specify colors, options, etc. on the assembly line.

So....you have a 1971 type 2.....that originally came with a type 1 1600.....and now has a 1911 based/built on a type 4 case?

Understand.....if the engine came from a type 4 car....thats a 411, 412 ...

Is this a 1.8L?

What is the prefix # stamped on the rod cap? I ask because the EARLY 1.7L used the same rod forging and prefix # as the 1.8L....but had 1mm smaller pins.

I am facing the exact same 'syndrome'. In addition, the nut stud is broken inside the oil strainer bolt Sad
I will give Ray's fix a try, but I first need to find a new oil pickup bell/tube.

Its also possible this is a ground issue. The whole drigetrain package moves during shifting. The more or less of that depends on how good your mounts are.

Disconnect your generator belt. The "knock" ....like everything else in the engine Very Happy ....is at the same frequency as your generator belt. This could be sokething in tue fan or the pulley ...

The tractive effort difference because of rpm/torque band was indeed a big difference between the final drive sets in the 003 trans used on bus as compared to car versions.

However that just change ...
