Yes...your original method is fine....just dont dilute the muriatic acid so much.

Sometimes i weld a socket to a socket, creating.....a claw foot socket?
keep it around 90 degrees to the torque wrench so it won't skew the torque.

I used a 1/4 " drive socket and 6" extension with a 3/8 adapter on the torque wrench

did you also cut a notch in the socket so you could get that aluminum ...

Your tank does not look bad enough to coat. If you have no actual leaks and pinholes....gou do not need coating.
