double cut shears make nice clean cuts, but have a wide kerf. when i use them im usually not to concerned with the kerf as im replacing that metal

Wet sand with 600, if you burn thru color spot it in and spray clear right over. It will be fine

I should also mention that I dont usually mix the clear in my paint for complete paint jobs as you dont need to with acrylic eurothane or enamel

It's also quite helpful to set the glass with seal installed out in the sun for 1/2 hour or so to warm the rubber compound a little, softens it up a little so install is a little easier.
