I did a cross country trip from New Hampshire to the U.P. in Michigan thru glacier and the Cascades down the west coast in my 71' bus. this post reminds me so much of that trip I was 20 at the time 40 ...

Thx Strfish7, I want to keep it original so the blemishes will have to stay, I guess it will be a rat look project. I might try that with my 67' bus when the time comes. willie

The initial problem wildthings was , the distributor popping up out of the hole but I guess it stands to reason if the dist. Is not in the right place there is bound to be a problem.

I checked the depth to the top of the dist drive shaft and it is 48mm, It says the thickness for the washer should be 0.60 mm for the one washer needed for a single carb engine, well short of the 3mm ...

Thanx Glen, I have a couple "real ones" I'll give them a try. I seems that the distributor could sit a bit deeper into the dist. drive shaft though.
