A few other factors might be at play:

1.) No local competition for a shop working on old ACVWs

2.)Overbooked due to #1 above.

3.)Because of #1 and #2, guy who could/should be answering phones ...

I tapped mine and even put nuts on the backside. I figured even if I wasn't worried about the bolts pulling thru, having nuts covering the threads would keep them clean.

If you go the GB route, you'll need to match port them...they come with extra material in the ports so they can be hogged out to match your head's without weakening them.
