I have a full synchro tranny in a '59 bug. I just had it rebuilt. We put a bus nose cone on it -211-301-205 so I could still use rubber mounts and not mod the the mounts.
Anyway, the hockey stick I have doesn't appear to line up properly. I looked on line and saw that I needed to use a special hockey stick 113-311-541.
I bought what I thought was a 113... hockey stick but it looks exactly like the one I am taking out. I think the one that I need has a different bend.
Can someone show me what the 113-311-541 looks like? Are these the wrong ones?

I got a used type two hockey stick. The problem with the type 2 hockey stick is that they have the coupler hole on the bottom. I will need to drill a hold on top so that I can connect my coupler to it.
My question is, how can I be certain where to drill the top hole? |

Assemble the hockey stick in the Bus nose cone. Now rotate it left and right to find the center. Pull or push it into 2nd or 1st gear. The hockey stick should now be in the mid position of it's rotation. Mark it with your sharpie right at the top. Now shift it into 3rd/4th and mark that. Now go over to reverse and mark that. Your 1st/2nd position should be very close to half way between the R and 3rd/4th. If it is, now you're ready to drill. I took a drill bit about the right size and ground it with a really pointy tip to match the angle on the factory divot. _________________

ive had this set up in mine for abt 2 years now- the only thing that really bugs me is the coupler ends up screwing to the very tip of the bus hockey stick. Doesnt seem like a super strong connection.
Anybody else have this problem or did i do something wrong? _________________ 1960 36hp sedan- 1978 adventurewagen

What? Don't really know what could be messed up... Bus nose cone hockey stick. Stock coupler.
When I ordered the hockey stick from long enterprises the guy talked about this happening but I haven't heard anyone on here mention anything about it. I think I talked with you before bill about trimming the rear tin. Thought this was just an extention of that issue. _________________ 1960 36hp sedan- 1978 adventurewagen

I apologize... Just to clarify on Bruce's directions...
Let's assume I have the tranny out and the hockey stick/nose cone attached and it is in neutral. I rotate the hockey stick left (counter clockwise) and right(clockwise) to find the mid point of the movement. Then I push in on the hockey stick to engage first gear. If I engage first gear successfully, I mark the top of the hockey stick with a sharpie.
Then I pull on the hockey stick (the same distance as I pushed it) and ensure that it is back in neutral by rotating it back and forth. How do I engage 3rd gear? Do I rotate the hockey stick counter clockwise, then push forward to engage 3rd gear? after I engage 3rd gear, I assume I mark the top as I did with 1st.
Then I get it back into neutral. How do I engage reverse?
Once I have reverse engaged and mark the top, I have three marks. Which mark do I drill?
Sorry for the late response... I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions!

To get 3rd, rotate it CW then push.
To get reverse, rotate it CCW, then pull.
Drill your divot at the middle line. You mark the others to verify the first mark is truely in the middle. _________________
