|

Hope this isn't too stupid of a question, but if I knew what the material was I would search the archives. I've seen it discussed previously regarding those chunks of woven(?) material or sound absorption stuffing placed around the rear inner wheel wells and the engine compartment, or under the top of the front wheel wells, just in that empty spot above the door hinge pillar covers. The stuff that I think most have referred to as just water absorption and rust growing material. Questions:
1. What do you call that stuff-if I've described it clearly enough?
2. Is there some type of newer or equivalent material available?
3. Should I consider stuffing anything back in those spots as I rebuild?
I'm not as concerned about the rear area below the back window, but I have noticed there is quite an empty spot at the top of the inner front wheel well around the base of the windshield pillar, and would like to fill that some way to prevent water getting into that area and having to de-rust that part of the car over the coming years.
Awaiting advice

I have seen them called sound deadening pillows or sound insulation pillows. Also 'noise or heat pads'. Not sure of the official term.
There was someone on here that was making these for Ghias. I haven't seen any ads lately on here, but his website is www.zwerks.ca _________________ 68 Ghia Regatta Blue Convertible

Thanks smuenchrath, I believe that is exactly what I was looking for. His website is still up, but he only lists that one product. I'll reach out and see if he is still making/selling these.
If not, wondering if there is any other recommended material that can be used.

Thanks Guys. Redlabel6 thanks for the pics of the denim insulation, I think that would work perfectly.

I stuffed all mine with acoustical foam.
It worked great but turned out to be a bad idea.
Now, 17 years later, it’s turning to dust. _________________ Volkswagen!

Yeah I figured if I stuffed something in there I would encase it with some type of waterproof cloth, or pieces cut away from an old ski jacket with the seams sealed up for extra waterproofing. _________________ 1971 Ghia convertible (Body off rebuild)

I used it as a wrap around the perforated heater pipes under the rear seat too. That's what the piece is a picture of.

Yeah those look good, I figured that's what they were for looking at the shape with the cutouts. I wish I had thought of that. I could always go back and redo mine once I get through the thousand other priorities of the rebuild. _________________ 1971 Ghia convertible (Body off rebuild)
