do you use original lower trim or repro? if repro, whose? |
We used the stainless steel stuff ISP West sells. It’s about $30 more than the aluminum foil garbage Airhead sells. These snap on super tight and flush to the body, no gaps, and they don’t slide around. Bit more difficult to install on the stock plastic clips but that’s the only downside expect the profile is different, they don’t have the sharp edge, so if you are doing a correct restoration they won’t work for certain years. _________________ Go Reds! Thanks for the encouraging words gents.
Installed the dash cover, knee pad and dash cover today as well as the door caps. They usually look stark against the typical late brighter colors but with the Slate Gray they look pretty sharp, much more subtle I think.

More progress…
We finally had a sunny day so I got a few pix of the color with sunlight on it. It’s a lot lighter and the green comes out a lot more.
We also got the front bumper on, more exterior trim and ran the wiring loom. All the door hardware and window regulators are cleaned up and installed. We decided on running the NOS Hella European tailight lenses that came with the car.

Looks great! I love how so many of the Porsche and VW colors from this era changed so much with lighting. Porsche Stone Grey is another one I like alot that changes quite a bit.
I've read from numerous sources that orange rear turn signals reduce your chance of being rear-ended by a significant percentage. Cheap insurance
I've thought about putting Euro tail lenses on my car if I can find an OG set of Euro Hellas that's not astronomically priced _________________ Currently own:

Thanks!
It’s hard to find original Euro ones in the US that aren’t beat to hell. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Getting close to having the body assembled and uniting the body to the pan. We had a little snafu on the drums and rotors, learning the small wide five pattern doesn’t always mean Porsche pattern, so we dummies up the wheels just to get a sense of what the car will look like on its feet.

I must admit I was skeptical at first about your color choice, but seeing it now it’s perfect. |

Thanks.
It’s a chameleon color, in some light it looks plain gray but in other light you see the green in it. Next week we get the red door panels which should really pop. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Spent the day getting the body back on the pan where it belongs, bolting the body down and adjusting door gaps. We also mounted the wheels, deciding to use spacers to push the front tires out a bit more. Pretty happy with the results.

Took four days but the doors are built. First look at the red interior. I think it works well with the Slate Gray.
We also got the gear box back and installed.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
TMI’s “Red” vinyl. VW used it in late Beetles. It’s a nice rich color. Fun fact is TMI will use any of their smooth vinyls for Ghia door cards, so you are not limited to the narrow range of Ghia colors if you want stock pattern but a more lively color. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Spring is approaching fast, so we’ve been back in it. The top mechanism is all straightened out and installed per workshop specs. New seal in the rear window and we tossed the top on the frame just to see how the color looks with the car.
