Hi Everyone,
I just scored a pair of Dellorto DRLA 36’s with manifolds and these unique looking air horns on top. Does anyone have any knowledge of these?
Thanks in advance!
Jim

Those top end manifolds are not part of a VW configuration.
But, neither are Dellorto carbs!
You can remove the tops and buy a set of CB filters and linkage. You'll have to source a set of velocity stacks that fit Dells. There are a few available in the classifieds here.
What engine, are you planning installing them on?
I have a 1679 that I run 36 Dells on. The thing can pull hills like a high HP engine build.

Those are from an alfa 33 or alfa sud
and so are the carbs
I've been looking to buy some of those air hats, you just reminded me.
But you can also use them if they fit what your doing
Here is a picture of that from another angle.

Thanks for the replies.
I wasn’t planning on keeping them, but wanted to identify them. I’m going to building a mild street motor and was going to refurbish the Dells for the build.
I’m going to be putting it into my 67 Bug. Still a ways away from that, but never hurts to plan. |

Well PM Glen and make a deal. I'm sure he'll snap them up for the right price.
I like Dells over the other IDF type dual carbs. I find them to be a little more refined and tunable.
Never seen a set with the choke circuits intact. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Would appreciate a heads up if you sell them, no hurry tho.
Very nice carbs too, hopefully they are not too corroded from age on the inside. |

YES! That right there makes those carbs worth their weight in gold in my view!! _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. (The mass media age) |

I too am looking for a set of those 90* air horns for my 40 IDFs. I don't know if they interchange with Webers. Modoc would know. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. (The mass media age) |

Bolt pattern all the same.
But I'm not sure if there are different sizes for the smaller and larger carbs, it seems like there should be.
The 36mm carbs are 38mm on the top, while the 40's are 42 on top, so, that's a lot bigger. |

I would like to read about what it takes to prepare Alfa 36mm Dells for VW use.
Interestingly i have a set of the same intake manifolds with the "D" cast in. No idea who made them. I have them on a 1600 and I agree 100% with rustavenger. really transforms the 1600.

As mentioned above, Alfasud or 33... very common in Europe about 35-40 years ago...
Also... for the weird n wonderful, did they really do that?!, or partnerships you never saw coming..
Look up Nissan cherry, or the Alfa arna... they had them too.. would love an arna!.. I think there's about 2 left
The carb tops work good for central airbox systems imo.
I had some on a 2l in a type 3, worked great.. made a jig, cut down or "stubbified" the drla manifolds.. set of twin 40 drlas, those carb tops, and iirc used the central air box and 2 rubber seals from the airbox to carb tops on a type 4. Almost like it grew there... quieter, and didnt seem to stop the power up to 5500rpm.
They're very useful!... good luck with it if you use them... |

Not a rare part yet.
Alfa1750 (ebay) quoted me 100$ for a pair + shipping.
Seems fair
