Hi all,
I looked around to see if there was a post on this but kept coming up with Temp Sensor II stuff, which I don’t think this is.
Can anyone tell me what this “sensor”? Is and where it should be connected to? I can’t seem to find a sport where it is obvious it came from.
Cheers!
This is on my ‘78 westy.

Oil pressure sending unit. You're missing also the boot for it, 021 119 957. The wire that this connects to comes from the same bundle that contains the wires for the blower above the engine, and I think it's blue with a black stripe.
Another thing I notice is the wire housing plug for the connection to your cold start valve is brown. It should be blue. Good chance someone has mixed up the housings for the CSV and the thermotime switch which is just below but not visible in your photo. TTS is brown and CSV is blue. _________________ SL |

Its your oil pressure switch. The Type 4 switch has 10mm tapered threads instead of the 10 x 1mm straight threads of a Type 1 engine. For some reason VW had a ~5" long jumper wire added to the wire in the harness, so the correct wire may not reach the switch without using a short jumper. |

for my TIV in my 914 and planning to do the same in my bus, I added a paint ball gun hose into this threaded hole. US threads are the same as Wildthing mentions. grease gun and flexible brake lines are the same too.
But you get about 18" of one of those hoses and thread it in. From there you can add a VDO OP gauge sender with a lite if you want. attach the other end of the blue wire, not pictured, to the lite terminal on your sender. then the gauge wire to the gauge terminal of the sender.
More than you asked for, I know, but it is great to have real feed back in these old VWs. _________________ My Toys: '75 Porsche 914, '92 Ski Nautique and now a 1972 VW Transporter Deluxe (punch list fixing) |
