This is normal.
First start, engine is cold, choke is on, throttle is held open by choke mechanism. Engine idles fast.
Second start, engine is warmer, choke on less, throttle is held open less - engine still idles fast, it has warmed so spins easier with less throttle.

Later start - engine is hot, choke cools down and closes, mixture is now too rich for hot engine, engine harder to start. When it starts it idles at correct speed, 850 RPM +/-

You need two different starting approaches :

Cold engine start - one press of gas pedal, release, crank, starts quickly.

Hot engine start - press and hold gas pedal, crank and wait for air to pump into the engine to lean out the mixture, engine starts.

This happens because the engine holds heat for longer than the choke mechanism when you stop the engine.

If the float needle valve doesn't seal 100% that can cause this as well. Check to see if your dipstick smells of gasoline.

Yes, if you are leaking gas past the needle valve when the engine isn't running it may well show up in the crankcase. A sniff test isn't super definitive, but is a good place to start.

Test to make sure the needle valve seals well and/or adjust the float.
