Hi Group,

Question: When using Intake Manifold Insulators are / should standard Manifold gaskets be used on both side of the insulator ? Or does a new insulator act as the seal too ?

Best Regards

Fuel injected of course? The stock phenolic plastic spacers have a cast in paper gasket on both sides. They act as the seals.

If the spacer is used and you want to reuse it (I only do this when I cannot get new).....clean the heck out of it in something like naphtha or even MEK. Most carb cleaners will not hurt it but you want to remove oil from the gaskets on both sides.

Then sand both sides on glass on 800 to 1000 grit. You just want to remove down to clean paper and make sure they are even. I then use a roller method to put a micro-thin film (it will be transparent) of something like Moto-seal, Yamabond or Honda bond.
Put it on evenly and then let it dry. These stay pliable and are gasoline proof. That pretty much duplicates.

I do this even on new ones. They seal better.

the only risk of using old ones is that years of heat cycles, vibration and the occasional overt torque can crack them where you cannot see the crack.

Here is how I do micro thin and very even gaskets.
