The slope of the red trim on the building compliments the angle of the red trim on the bus nose. Unreal. _________________ nothing |

These two photos come from the Fairbanks flood in summer of 1967
They are having a gathering in the vw building as I suppose it was one of the less damp spots.. |

VW van, appears to be in SE Alaska maybe (?), circa early 1960's.
VW van at Artic Valley ski area, Anchorage Alaska early 1960's.
My dad borrowing his friend's (later my godfather) late 1950's Beetle, Anchorage Alaska, early 1960's.
My dad's 1963 VW Beetle in front of Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage Alaska, circa winter 1963/1964.
My mom and dad dating in Anchorage Alaska winter 1963/1964 - getting ready to go on a ski trip in my dad's 1963 VW Beetle. Note skis attached to the back. This car also had a gasoline heater installed in it (which I loved dearly as a young child! ).
My mom and dad following their wedding in late Dec. of 1964. Here they are departing a couple weeks later (in early Jan. 1965) from her hometown in NW Iowa enroute back to Anchorage Alaska, in dad's 1963 VW Beetle. Note the ski racks still attached to the back of the car.

^^^ Nice big tires out back, too. Gotta keep those RPM's down!
Sounds like you parents and my parents had a similar path. Mine met and were married in Anchorage in 62. Both were from MN, and they moved back there in fall of 63. Dad is from Southwest MN, and they lived there for a time before going back to school and moving around a bit. Dad didn't have a VW until the late 60's though. _________________ nothing |

Wondering if the red Volvo 544 at the bottom of this pic was ours - my aunt borrowed it while she was working up there - time frame is correct. _________________ Xargaret

Do you have a plate number? I think I have a better resolution of the photo on my desktop |

It would have Oregon Pacific Wonderland plates on it (I can't remember the plate number). It probably isn't ours, but wouldn't it be funny if it was. _________________ Xargaret

It’s the internet. It’s yours’ to claim!
Volvo has the highest IQ of owners, and the highest proportion of female owners.

Huge break in the photos of the dealership my double cab was sold at… thanks to a really good friend for pursuing the hunt for the last 6 months and getting in contact with the family who owned sunset motor, these are provided photo scans from Ivan’s sons sons wife…
Enjoy..
Thanks so much Tony for digging into this as much as I have |

If you look close you will notice the photo were taken close to the same spot, as well as power lines and windows line up, building isn’t labeled sunset motors, but period correct to be sunset before captn cook construction in the 1960s… will keep digging for more
Edit: if you zoom in you can even notice the chimney is the same, along with grooves and angle ..

Just scored this Sunset Motors plate frame, only one I have ever seen. Not sure if they used these on earlier cars only and then switched to the decals or if both were used at the same time.
