Ya, it is the AMT model. I changed my OP.

I used .060 Plastruct rod for the master and made the resevoir and cap with a punch set I have for creating circles from .5mm to 3mm. You can buy lead wire of different sizes from Cabellas in the fly tieing supplies section.

I cut off the rear torsion housing and made a new rear pan end piece for the body to sit on and filled the space between the kit and new piece with Miliput. I made a filler for the napoleons hat section as well. The side pieces on the rear forks are just cut from .015x.100 plastic strips.

time not withstanding, would there be a practical way to get this starting point to a fairly accurate scale model?

i do not want it to be a radio controlled car, so the mechanicals & motor/ wiring would be the first things to be jettisoned.

there doesn't seem to be any other source for a 1:12 (must be!) vintage VW.

any input appreciated; thanks.

ps: i even want to make the "sweetheart" tailights

The kit has been around for a long time, but the lights are new.

My latest addition.

Though this seems like more of a toy, it was actually a small model kit by Lindberg. These 1/64 Mini-Lindys were first issued in
the 1960s, but a few of the models were reissued in 1973 under the VAN GO line. The only difference was the models were
molded in bright metalflake plastic. This model actually has a very accurate Westphalia interior.

The VW Camper was renamed the Can Van! This one is in metalflake orange.

Here's is my new to me Lindberg. No metal flake, just solid red. The axles are loose so it looks lowered, but now that I know it's a kit I'll try and take it apart to see what's what.

It looks like it's missing the "suspension" part!

When taking it apart, the trickiest part is getting the rear chassis tab out of the body without breaking the bumper.

Ask me how I know!

I like the solid red color, it looks good with the decals - although why Lindberg made 'Paul Bunyon Sporting Goods' and 'Jet Delivery Service' decals for a VW camper is beyond me. Looks like you might be missing the headlamps but hopefully they are loose trapped inside the body.

Here is one I've had for a while, disassembled (courtesy of my brother who also collects toys but not VW toys - fortunately for me!) It came without wheels but I recently pictured up some old Tootsietoys that will donate some shoes for this Lindberg.

Started on a 1/9 scale Kubel from Italeri. Spent a good 20 hours on the engine adding some nut and bolt details and modifying parts to make it look less like a 1600. Also replaced the tailpipes with plastruct tube.

Thanks! It is a custom rig. The body is Tamiya Sand Scorcher, the chassis is a MST CMX, and the rest is various hop-up parts and 3D printed parts. The driver is Hopper from the show Stranger Things haha

That makes it all the more nice. I did a custom of the ex wife’s Baja years ago. Looks like shit. Page 3.

That's not so bad for the small scale, mine is 1/10th scale so I think it is easier to paint the details because it is so much bigger. Mine is also a RC car so I can "drive" it.

Good looks and functional. 10/10.

Working on the pan and front beam. I smoothed out the frame head so I could locate the beam in the proper place and added the front stiffening rib on the bottom

I cut off and relocated the 4 bolt heads represent the beam bolts. The top 2 were in the middle of the brackets and the bottom 2 went thru the bottom tube???

I added the linkpin ends on the carrier as well as the round castings on the top and bottom of the carrier where the king pin bushings go in.

I filled the hole where the master cylinder mounts, separated the master from all the goofy crap they had going on, reshaped the brakeline end of the master, added bolt castings to it and drilled it to accept metal brake lines and pushrod, then made a brakelight switch from plasticard and my punch sets.

Awesome detail in that kit. I've never heard of Italeri before but that looks like top quality. Nice!
