Freshly tuned 1600 with new points and condenser. Car drives great then after a but it would slowly start cutting out…..kept up and become more often - blip-blip-----blip--blip-----blipblipblip----blip. Then finaly so much that under load - the blips were really frequent and random - causing my speed to slow down to about 45-50. I would come back to the house, adjust the points as I’m thinking it might be the issue, then on the next test drive it would run OK but after a while start doing the same thing, or sometimes it wouldn’t even start out running decent at all. Then I noticed that the condenser was not securely screwed down to the distributor. I tightened it up, it was quite loose, and took it for a drive and it seems to run OK. Will try again tomorrow and see if it can run decent on a longer drive. My question is will a loose condenser cause these symptoms? _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

It does need to be grounded through the case, so yes, maybe that was all. |

Are you trying to say that your points are going out of adjustment on each drive?
Please provide specifics like what is your point gap or dwell after each drive and where are you setting the gap to get things working again?
Are you adjusting the ignition timing after each points adjustment? What is your idle timing?
You need to adjust timing whenever you touch the points as changes in point gap directly change the ignition timing. _________________ AshMan40
