I want to replace the hood hinges on my 74 superbeetle with gas struts. Has anyone done this? I saw some made by Empi, but want to be sure they will work on a 74. Any other recommendations are appreciated.

The hinges, or the springs attached to the hinges? I replaced my springs with struts on my 68 beetle.

California Import Parts has a set for 73-79 Supers only, March madness sale cuts 20 bucks off the price. ACC-C10-3395. Come from a European supplier, not sure how they compare to EMPI.

I run the gas springs on my bug,
They work good, but lose pressure after about 5-8 years
