Fiat 500/126 thermostat opens at same temperature, it's only 13-15 euros. Needs small modifications to fit but nothing major. |

I'd be concerned that the significant less number of folds in the accordion would not let the flaps open properly. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Sorry but I'm not in USA so I have no idea who sells Fiat parts over there, maybe you can order from this place?

Original question was from UK so he shouldn't have a problem getting this part. (Ok, maybe Brexit causes a bit extra costs...) |

True, it's not perfect but I was answering to give a "cheaper option".
Stroke is the same so flaps will open. Not sure what happens long term etc. because it indeed has less folds. |

Here in North America Fiat has a less than stellar reputation for reliability, I'd be a little concerned that saving a few $ could lead to catastrophic engine damage. Everyone has their own level of risk tolerance, myself I'd go with Awesomepowdercoat and just cry once. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Old Fiat parts are pretty rare here in the US. Europe might be different. About 1979/1980 the Communists in Italy staged a massive strike against Fiat. Cars were sitting on lots here in the USA for months waiting on warranty parts. Pretty much hosed their reputation from being the #1 importer of cars to being somewhere below what people thought of Yugo. As a result Fiat left the North American market for about 30 years. Fiat 500, 600 even 850 early parts are pretty much catch a flight to Italy if you want them. There are still some 1968 - 1980 or so Fiat 124 spider groups around who import some parts. But, about 1980 due to a problem with the front crossmember cracking when the bolts were not checked with service once in awhile, along with rust every 124 owner up to about 1974 was offered cash to sell their car back to Fiat. Same for the 850's. The 124 spiders were shipped back to Italy to be refurbished and sold in the European market. The rest were crushed.
The awesome powdercoat thermostats are new. I've had old stock ones fail easily because the solder crystallized. I've got one on my bench right now waiting for time to repair it. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Did Aircooled.net ever re-open? I thought they were closed. |
Sadly:
But sort of leaves the door open for them to come back? _________________ SL |

They may have enjoyed a strike or two but build quality, rust and the drop in fuel costs were the true cause of them pulling out of the States. Fiat now own Jeep, Dodge, RAM and Chrysler. How's that for a turnaround. _________________ |

Hi Tom, nice to see a post from you. I was racing several Fiat 124 spiders at the time, and knew most of the Fiat dealers in So Cal. Also was working as a mechanic in a custom dealership specializing in Italian cars - Fiat, Lancia, Ferrari, Alfa etc.. The public stopped buying Fiats because of the lack of service, which was caused by lack of parts, and the lack of parts was caused by the communist strike. I was there with people here in the USA who were face to face with the problem, and with mechanics who had family members in Turin involved in the mess there. Only reporting what I saw and heard from people involved. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
