When looking at old posts I noticed that other Things had the same odd shaped marking.
Was this a manufacturing defect? What was the cause?
Has anyone else noticed this on their 73 Thing?

The aliens landed on my ‘74 as well.

Mine has multiple rings to it. It’s also strange that some dash marks are closer to a complete circle, and others are more of a ‘rising Sun’.
I’m guessing it’s something to do with the manufacturing process? It would be interesting to see a ripped up pad. Maybe there’s a denser / softer spot under there?

Yeah, probably had to do with the mold and process of manufacturing.

You can try a heat gun or hair dryer or use some sort of auto detailing product for trim.
