Good day all.
I have decided, after years of lurking, to document and post to Samba the proces of saving 1973, 1302 bug. The bug is not only rotted to the bone, but also full of "repairs" in east European style. Engine is gone, gearbox is in unknown state and electric looks like Einstein hairdo.

I am propably out of my mind, but then so is the most of us. Will try to post daily. Enjoy.

Love seeing the Supers getting saved...

From the pics you posted it almost looks like a stalled project you picked up...

I think you got a rare one there too...I did not know that a 1973 Super ever had a flat windshield...

Looks great from here

Keep at it...

Suprise of the day. After cleaning dealer VIN plate it turned out that this body is actually December 1970 model.

Yes, a '71 model year makes more sense with the "flat" windshield; if it were the larger windshield it'd be a 1303 which started with the '73 model year (Aug. 1972 start of production). Since you have front drum brakes, it originally had the smaller engine 1300 cc dual-port, not the 1600 cc of the 1302 S. But your rear axle should be CV-jointed semi-trailing arm style which I think all "Super Beetles" received even in the European market.

Did you buy those new front quarter panels, or did they come as spares with the car? Are you skilled with welding to fit them yourself?

That's a model we rarely see, coming from the D'Ieteren factory licensed assembly in Belgium.

Are there still sometimes Beetles found in junkyards in your country, for spare parts?

Good luck with your super! I am replacing heater channels and a fe other spots as well on my 70 standard. Happy I'm not the only person putting effort in on the later model beetles.

I have purchased quarter panels, heating channels, floor halves and some smaller piece from BBT.
This one is kinda frankenbug with 1970 body and 1973 floor with IRS and double spring plates. Unfortunately here most beetles are now long gone to crusher. This started in years 1990 - 2000 when hundreds of 50's and 60's bugs were destroyed in order to use their documents to "legalise" freshly imported ones.
For this one I actually showed to purchase wheels but for extra 100 Euro got the whole bug😁. Beside 2inch rise, 4x4 tires and aditional instruments, plan is to keep if simple and orange.

Nothing quiet like a bright orange Super Beetle...I remember like it was yesterday seeing all those colorful Beetles banging around my town...

Keep us in the loop as you go along...I am along for the ride....

Removing body from pan. With so much structural parts missing I was suppose to stiffen body first, but i did not.

Yes Surprised, I actually showed to buy them, the rest of the car was "accidental" purchase.

Going further with disassembling. Cut out the halves (mostly they just fell off) and did some cleaning. Rear suspension is in tragic shape.

That is one bug that has been rode hard and put up wet, you are a brave man to take that on, more power to you.
