we pulled in the wiring harness before paint and just had it bagged on each end for overspray.

so far, i really like the WW harness over the Wiring Works. However, the aftermarket fuse block does not have the double-sized terminal for the two large red wires like the original, so i wont be using the new block. Last night, i had enough and started soaking the OG block in Kroil. should be fine.

i searched the gallery and couldnt find a good pic of the flasher relay on a 6 fuse block. the two screw holes for the block are different sized. I had the two original screws, one worked on the right side but the left sized hole is too large. Is there a relay bracket that goes behind the fuse block that has a smaller hole for the sheet metal screw to grab? or does the flasher just hang in space on the wires?

thank you,

Navydave

It’s got one of those brown Bakelite flashers. Is there a bracket for it that the fuse block screw bites into?

Finalizing the wiring harness. The WW fuse block wire terminals are all the same size OG Bus has a few of the terminals larger to accommodate the multiple big wires. Cleaned up the OG and reinstalled. I found a blinker bracket in my pile of parts but the hole is larger too. I may go with a door panel clip like what comes with door speakers. I’ll see what Ace Hardware has and post pics

Thanks Everett. I was wondering where they went. I have the pockets underneath for the felt pads also. Is it both or rubber for late 59 on and felt for early?

If you have the pockets it should just be the felt only.

The sun shinning on the new WW chrome handle looked cool to me? I could not get the OG one off the old hatch

My wife wants to keep the hippie door, so I used orange paint remover Crome Home Depot that my son good luck with on his Mango. After seeing how the door buffed out, I really regret not keeping the OG paint as much as possible and trying to blend where I replaced metal. Oh well.

I was feeling good about the dove blue until I buffed out this door. You can see how off my color match is. I should have polished the door then had my paint shop match off of that. It’s cool that my wife is providing input and being involved. Definitely a strange partial resto?

The details are dragging on of course, that’s how these things go. Hopefully headliner next weekend.

Interesting color difference. Nice that your wife is involved with the original door staying original. Great thread.

That’s a link to the headliner thread I made. It came out OK.

But I’m really struggling with glass. I ended up breaking a corner window. Damn it. The skylights just won’t go no matter what we try. It seems like the profile of the rubber is too thick. I ordered one from WCM, we will see if they fit better. I had 1 original glass with a rubber on it, don’t know where it came from but it popped right in.

I could not get aftermarket glass to install no matter what I tried. I got ahold of an OG and compared the difference, you can see by the outline marker how much larger they are.

The ragtop was one of the easiest things to make so far, more simple than a bug ragtop. I used German fabric canvas, it supposed to be vinyl but I love the look of cloth.

The ragtop may have been simple but the seat upholstery is a royal pain in the ass. I never would have thought that the seats were tuck and roll. I was going to sew a visible seam similar to heat seams until my son bought his walk thru seats for his Mango. One of the seats came with original upholstery so I could see how it was put together. They used the drier lint looking jute padding for the panels sewn between each pleat. I went with foam, looks a little over stuffed but it’s comfortable.

Following some of the threads on here, burlap over springs. Then stiff jute pad followed by new WW coconut seat pad for front only. Then 1 layer of 1/2” cotton batting I Got from Amazon. For rear and middle, burlap…jute…2 layers of cotton batting.

I’m doing the middle seat last so I can have my system down on the other seats. Lots of complicated pieces to sew and fit. This is the first project I’ve ever used poster board to make templates. It’s working out but I’m still struggling to get it right. For the rear, I made the shapes from the bare seat with no padding, then added to the measurements to allow for padding. We will see how it turns out later today

I think that’s too early for me. My build date is November 11. So according to Progressive refinements and the original lower valence, Im pretty sure it’s steel bumpers.

It is a high tailight though. Pretty cool.
