Hey All,
I am looking for a mechanic in the Austin tx area that would be able to help me troubleshoot and possibly repair my car. I just had something go wrong and I need a guy!
Any leads would be helpful. I tried Austin Veedub, but he said he wasn't available until may 31st, and according to him when I asked if there were any other options in the area, his response was "nobody works on those cars." Nobody except you? I'm sure someone on here knows a guy...

I thought I saw a vw shop somewhere near Lamar Blvd.
That was around 2014. So it may not be there anymore. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Okay thanks guys!
So what happened is out of nowhere my wife and I heard a pop sound, and all of a sudden the clutch engaged higher up, and first gear from a stop was popping out unless I eased it in slowly. All other gears, and even first gear once moving was doing great, it was only first gear from a perfect stand still would pop out and start grinding. So I called a guy and he told me it had to be internal to the transmission, but I figured what the hell, how could something pop like that so loudly inside the transmission all of a sudden randomly?
So i figured it was the lack of momentum of the car pulling the engine/transmission away from the shift linkage, and causing it to pop out of gear when starting due to a bad transmission mount. And, praise Jesus, it WAS the transmission mount. One of the bolts had popped off, and the other one that was in wasn't even tightened on. I got two new bolts from home depot and secured them tightly, tightening all other bolts around there, and guess what? No more popping out of gear!
So it'll be good to have a mechanic in the future, but thankfully I didn't need one today...
Thanks again guys. |
