|

Hey all, the '67 is a few weeks from body/paint and in the process of final teardown, i noticed a few things that need attention.
1st, the rear body brackets (in the wheel wells) were cut to allow the '67 body to fit a '69 pan. I know there is a german company that makes them, but anyone know of a place in the U.S. ?
2nd, i will likely need either a full dash frame or at a minimum, the corners. A minor long lasting windshield leak dripping behind the plastic overlay has pitted the corners pretty badly.
Are the later years the same or close enough to use ?

Can someone help with the Dash issue ? I am in need of a replacement dash or at the minimum, the corners. Are the '68+ dash frames the same as the '67 ?
I know the '67 is an oddball with many things but I am not savvy enough to know what will work. |

Are you talking about the actual sheet metal, or the fuax "woodgrain" overlay?
If you're talking about the sheet metal, I think the very outer ends might be the same for all years. Not 100% sure on that. But being that 67-71 has the same gauge layout and the same glove box, I would think that any of those years should definitely work if you're just swapping the outer ends. 67 does have a one-year-only frenched ignition switch on the dash, so you won't be able to swap the full dash from any other year.
Overall that's a tough question as not many folks have likely done full dash replacements. I know Marcdeb swapped a 62 dash into his 71, so he might be someone to ask how that went with the fitment of the ends of the dash. _________________ Currently own:

I swapped out a '66 with another '66. The dash is simply spot welded around its perimeter
A '67 dash is a unique thing having the later gauge arrangement but also has a recess for the ignition key. If you swapped in a later dash then you'll have to deal with that recess . Here are some pictures from the gallery posted by various Samba people that show the differences beneath the veneer. Hopefully these might help you decide what's the best plan forward.
The corners ( or ends ) are very similar to all years except for the first lowlights. So you could splice those from another dash if you can find one.
Here is a '68 dash, which looks fairly close but of course without the recess.
By the time you get to '69 dashes, there are large slots along the top, which are covered by the dash top
I hope that's helpful for you..

Fantastic ! the 68-71 are the ones I really wanted to know about since the gauges are the same arrangement.
I can cut and metal finish the key area from my '67 frame into a later one if that's really all the difference there is.
I've been looking for a '67 specific frame, but... yeah. |
