I see Alan is making a 66 only decklid now (66 has the wolfshead cutout for the lock, vs the seperate holes for the 67. they interchange fine, but only one is right...)

Has anyone gotten their hands on one? before I drop $500 to ship one from europe....since I cant find anyone selling them in the US.

all these years later I still haven't found one as good as mine was before I got rearended, so this is tempting.

Looks like bbt silver weld panel. No experience with their decklids but if anything like the rest of their stuff it's good but far from perfect . If you question the quality post purchase you'll hear "well its the best available" and the sales pitch of being perfect is just a sales pitch

thanks! yeah looks like BBT - https://www.bbt4vw.com/en/catalogue/body-panels/bo...-65-07-67/

"good" is probably all I can hope for - all of the use stuff I've ended up with is in _terrible_ shape (even the best ones).

and as best I can tell no one else is making late decklids, even the 4 hole version now. (but I'm not very active in looking. gerson doesnt have any listed, anyway.). if there was a better 4 hole I might be temped to just section out the wolfs head from something I have.

but cutting 4 or 5 up to make 1 good one seems like an excessive amount of work.

BBT's part number lead me to https://raanas-shop.de/VW-Bus-T1-Ersatzteile-1950-...:6273.html

which has more pictures (and not just the marketing glossy pics)

I bought one for my 65 thru CIp1, should be arriving any day. I liked that it came with the prop bracket all ready attached versus cutting off my old one and re welding it.

i'd be interested to hear how it compares to an original churchkey lid.

I saw CIP lists the 66 (push button) lid, which I somehow didnt find in earlier searching - and it's the BBT one - but it's OOS at the moment. 350 vs the one vendor in europe I found who will set it for around $410 USD shipped

I received the BBT engine lid today and looked it over. Only differences I noticed were that it was 1/16" narrower and the corners were not quite as crisply folded, one of them I will probably metal work a little. It will be a while before i bolt any parts to it but my first impression is that it is well made and I am very happy with the purchase. Now I just need to figure out if I can scuff and paint it or need to take it down to bare metal.
There are a few more photos in my gallery that would not show up to upload.

photodump of the BBT '66 decklid.

The only significant difference I see is that the "bend" above the latch cutout is too low - low enough that it might affect latch/latch gasket fit. I haven't tried yet.

What are your plans to paint prep it?, I was thinking of taking it to bare metal before epoxy primer.

I'm not sure - that's a ways off for me, probably. I suspect I'll do the same. at minimum I'd have to feather out the scratched area from shipping.....but I tend to distrust everyone's packing primer. I haven't done any research though to see if what they're using is usable or not.

I've had an old decklid laying around for the past 30 years. Had time this morning to take a look and whaddayaknow. I posted a couple photos to the Gallery.
