So I went back and looked at the nose skin and the door. I would say that the nose skin does set in a bit further than the door does. The door is not hitting the door seal metal but it’s very close. I would say the door sits about 1/8” away from it.
I decided to take the door back off and noticed this.
The adjuster plate won’t slide any further to the center of the bus. I’m holding it as far back as possible in the picture. It almost looks like something dented the inside of that A pillar. Should I maybe relief cut the inside of the A pillar to allow the adjuster plate to slide inwards a bit more? That extra 1/8” is about what I need for everything to line up. _________________ New to split window busses but learning new things everyday. This forum is a wealth of knowledge. I decided to take a run at the parcel tray today. Here are the results.
Tried to tack weld these holes, but it just burned through. Time to make a patch.
Treatment for the rust
I also had some rust in the rear roof and and drip rail. I knew it was through to the center, but it was a bit worse than I thought. I’ll get it sorted out.

Got a bit more work done tonight.
Cut out a dent that I knew I would have a hard time fixing and welded in a new piece.
Also, my dad helped me flip my spindles. We shimmed them up and remounted them on the beam!

Fixed up a small hole in the rear window. Little steps are still steps.

Was trying to repair some pin holes in the side panel with weld, but kept blowing through. Decided to open it up and see what we were working with. I’m so glad we did. Lots of hidden rust in there. Got it all cut out, treated and rewelded. Ran out of welding gas though so that put an end to my day. :/
Aw well, Onward!

Finished another area on the bus this weekend that needed repair. The roof, drip rail and support beam were all rusted through. Cut them out and welded new pieces in. On to the next one.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

Crawled under the bus this weekend to scale off all of the old undercoating and crud. Man, that was a super dirty job. Here are some before and afters.

PO left me a bullet hole to fix. Hope they still have their foot.
The recesses in the floor under the seat mounts were rusted out in several places so I fabbed some new ones up and welded them in.

Can anyone tell me if this seam in the frame is supposed to be there or not?
Also, the PO had safaris in this bus but it didn’t come with them. If I plan on purchasing a set, should I weld up the current holes and drill new ones for the new set of safaris or should they line up perfectly with what I already have there? _________________ New to split window busses but learning new things everyday. Factory seam weld. That seam fooled me ever since I first looked under a bus. |

Thanks for the response. Any reason to believe it might fail and should be reinforced? _________________ New to split window busses but learning new things everyday. This forum is a wealth of knowledge. Thank you everyone for sharing. |
