Install the bush so the peg on the inside of the bush fits the hole in the rod.
apply grease liberally as you install it.
Thus:

I cleaned the guide tube and found a piece of plastic. In the front part, the shift rod rear was stuck.
I had to remove the paint completely in the upper part so that it fits into the guide tube at all. I suspect that there is still a piece of plastic in the pipe and I cannot remove it.
I hope that if I push the second plastic piece on the shift rod and there are no further problems with later shifting.
In which direction do I have to push the plastic piece onto the rear shift rod? Like the piece on the left side of the shift rod or as seen in the photo is the right plastic piece? |

A good few inches down the rod from each end is a drilled shallow hole.
Inside each bush perimeter is a plastic peg.
- slide the bushings down the rod until the inner plastic peg clicks into their holes on the rod. |

I think both go like the right one. The rod should be loose with the nylon shuttlecocks supporting it to add tension and anti-rattle. |

Clean the guide tube out so there is nothing stuck inside.
I like the inside of the tube to be greasy, not clean. But definitely nothing chunky sticky in there, like an old plastic bush rusted in place maybe?
Grease is good against rust. Rust chews up the plastic bushes. The plastic bushes should slide against grease and smooth metal, not dry rust. For best shifting and plastic bushes lasting.
I have pushed a small greasy rag through the tube to make the tube greasy all the way through, even where the sun dont shine.
Use lots of grease when installing shift rod.
I put bushing like on right.
With new bush, sometimes you have to clean casting flashing so peg fits nicely in hole. Depends on manufacture. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Can you shine a modern super bright focused flashlight at one end and see what's up? |

You are right. I looked at the shift rod. There are 2 holes for the plastic bushings.
Is the rear rod with the holes forward or backward to the transmission to be installed?
...and now, without the plastic bushings there is an new problem...
Did I do something wrong during assembly? These are the parts that were previously installed in the bus and it had worked.
What is the length of your front and rear shift rods? |
