Considering replacing my generator with an alternator. My stand looks like it has enough space at the front to fit an alternator? Is the backing plate for an alternator different than the generator? Thanks......Paul

I have heard you must replace the stand too when changing to an alternator. _________________ "Someday the world is gonna be populated by nothing but Volkswagens'" Corporal Klairvoy |

It looks an alternator stand from here. And yes, the backing tin is the same. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

It's not the same if you have the original Thing 38A generator. If you have a 30A generator it's the same. Hard to tell from the photos but it looks like a 30A unit. It will be stamped on the side of generator. Original Thing unit is a 211 part number, 30A unit is a 113 number.
Original Thing generator backing plate has a slight dish, 30A plate is flat. _________________ SL |

Best upgrade I've ever done... best of all was to get rid of the voltage regulator Here is a video on how its done. Feel free to follow my Yuotube channel

Unless you have some type of electrical demands that are not stock you don't need an alternator. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]
