Hello Forum,
I need your thoughts on a problem I've made for myself. I live in the Northwest, so Dune Buggy sat all Winter... I had/have the trickle charger on. BUT....I screwed up, left the ignition switch in the "accessory" mode all winter, (I just tightened up the switch), but it will not turn over, I must have burned out something...first try, barely any sound, sounded like at the starter. I check dash gauge, shows 10 volts, with key in on position, try to crank, no start or even cranking...Condenser? Starter solenoid? What do you think?
thanks,
Rick

Load test the battery. It may not be able to handle the amount of amps needed to turn the starter.

10 volts is not gonna get you much....maybe a click at the solenoid.

Test battery, bet it cooked..... With it reading 10 volts and when you try to crank it I'll bet it drops to 5 or 6 volts.... It probably has no capacity any more...

On a crank test, if the battery drops below 10.5 volts it's done. If the most you get is 10 volts with it fully charged its junk it should be at least 12.6V.

If the key was left on chances are all your distributor parts and your coil are cooked.

OP states key was in "accessory" position, if buggy was wired correctly the distributor/coil should not have any power applied and it still should be good....

Real question would be what was wired to accessory position of IGN switch that drained battery.....

Thanks again, looks like the battery is ok, believe the coil is done! Also, I've ordered a set of points and new condenser, the buggy has the Brazil centrifugal 094 dizzy. Wiring is my absolute worst knowledge base...absolutely... bought a multimeter yesterday, we'll see!
Appreciate your thoughts, thanks to all!!
Lots of new "stuff" over the Winter, and then nothing....

A bad coil would not prevent the buggy from turning over. Running...sure.

But it would still crank.
