It was time for a longer test session with the Porsche Typ 64 after some changes.
Picture taken at one of the local churches, bell tower in the background.
Softer shocks in front, car is so light, around 600kgs so it has been too stiff, now it really feels nice with good balance.
Newly built more open exhaust with equal length manifold from each cylinder inside an old VW muffler.
Sounds better and feels the same.
Newly designed fresh air intake system that can be adjusted 0-100%.
Not much air comes in by the door windows and I did make a rudimentary system when car was finished.
This feels so much better, more test to follow.

The Porsche Typ 64 was next for a testrun.
I have made a muffler insert and it has now been modified to be more open.
We needed to check the noise level and see how it effected the intercom system.
We drove in total just over 60kms and it seems to work just fine.😉
Car is a joy to drive and it goes so light through the air, great feeling.
Did a stop at the local Glass Work Factory here in the southeast of Sweden.
They started this factory way back in 1871 and today it is mainly an Art/Design University.
Very nice surroundings for classic car images.......😘
We took many pictures, here are some of them, please enjoy.

I have been poor on Typ 64 updates lately, sorry for that.😉
Here are some new, earlier taken photos of the Porsche Typ 64 recreation.
We have some meetings and other drives planned later on this summer.
Car runs really well, they new fresh air intake is a blessing and the new exhaust
I built with equal lenght headers seems to be an improvement.😎
Please also take a look on the Typ 64 blog.

Just bear in mind that the plates starting with 0 are not permanent, they were test plates that could be moved from car to car. |
That is an excellent point but also we know that the temporary plates "tend" to stay on a car unless there is a reason to remove them for a period of time when a car undergoes a rebuild, for example. That being said, I don't know why we have photos of seemingly the same car having plates 0687 and 0685 on it. |
Briefly adding to the discussion, my understanding is that these plates are manufacturer / dealer plates to allow testing on the road. As such they are not temporary plates issued for the individual vehicle but plates issued by the licensing authority for Porsche - or indeed Volkswagen GmbH - identifying the responsible company rather than an individual person. They are issued in red on white - iirc there's at least one colour photo of a Kdf-wagen with them on top of another regular plate, much as in the photo of the Typ64 with 430xx on it.
That's likely the reason 0687 and 0685 may be seen on the same vehicle, its the plates signed out to that vehicle on that occasion.
Kind regards,

Well, I think so! I do not find it easy reading in German I learned only in middle school 35 years ago! It is the case that the insured liability is to the plate not the vehicle, as such - like our modern trade plates.
The Kraftfahrzeug-Kennzeichen (reg plate) rules are in the Straßenverkehrszulassungsordnung (gotta love the Germans for long words?). Abbreviated to StVZO this was revised in 1937 and remained into recent times. (Circa 1998) The new laws provide a clause (72.1) for older vehicle registrations before 2012 to be able to retain their number. I wonder if this means technically a rebuild could retain an old number issued to it?
They do have temporary plates too though - nowadays in yellow according to online info - where the numerals correspond to a validity date, but I cannot think this is the case here.
Apologies for diverting from the main topic in trying to understand the plates these cars carried. _________________ 5 Mark die Woche musst Du sparen, willst Du im eignen Wagen fahren! |
