I am about to grill steaks this evening over charcoal (the way the gods intended) and I reflected on the utensil.
It is a Weber kettle made in Chicago in the mid-seventies.
My children gave it to me for Father's Day 1975 (actually their mama bought it). It has been outside uncovered year around in Iowa for 37 years now and it still performs flawlessly, the way it was intended. Very Happy[/quote
Mine's a Weber, so it probably pre- dates when they started making carburetors- which are nothing but a gas grill for your engine, when you think about it.
In fact, I have two Webers. They're great! I can't remember where they were made, though, so there's no guarantee that they are uswebers.
Weber? The times that I have been at the compound you've just used a couple old Mercedes wheels.

Thas cause you jes de hired hep.
and what am I, chopped liver. x2 on the wheel-b-q. That is what you grilled out burgers on as well.
Me, I have the trusty old weber and the gas grill that hardly gets used in the summer, but I actually use it a lot in the winter

Chopped liver? Nah, you're more like reground coffee grounds down the drain. Very Happy

Dual Webers!
Sorry, had to do it Laughing

I have a stainless steel grill I picked up free off craigslist. Not real old, but the burners had rusted out. I converted it to burn charcoal. Works great every time!

I have a red 22 1/2" high-end Weber I bought around 1991 as an end-of-season closeout for $25. I've only used it once or twice after taking it out of the box in 1996.

I bought one of the first-generation Weber Genesis A gas grills in 1998. I use it all the time. When Lowe's dumped the spare grates and flavor bars about 5 years ago, I bought a lifetime supply at 75% off.

The really ancient 18-inch Webers were made in Arlington Heights, IL (later ones were made in Palatine, IL). They last forever; except for the wood handles, top grate and rivets holding the 3 bottom vents in place.

Sorry for the crappy pics....I picked this baby up at a flea market for $20. It's a "KC cooker". It's from 1962. The guy I got it from, got it from an estate sale. Supposedly, the woman who originally bought it, saved every piece of paper that came with anything she ever purchased. So now I have the brochure that came with it. She bought it on May 19.1962 for $41.15 Shocked . It's cast aluminum thats about 1/4" thick. It has welded steel cooking grates that are at least 3/4" thick and it also has a flat piece of steel to put over half of the cooking surface to use as a griddle. It's by far the best cooking grill I've ever used Wink

Anyone else ever seen one of these?

never, looks cool, post a pic of the inside!

By the way, to keep it on topic, I have a Holland Grill, plumbed (by me) to Public Service natural gas. It is 5 months old, I had one previously that rusted out and I mistakenly replaced it with one of those CharBroil stainless grills from Lowes. What a piece that was....

scallops smoked with sage Saturday in the weber smoker.

The little 18" smoky joe weber has some rust-one of the leg mount areas has rusted away- I'm going to change the stance and lower it.

I have no idea the age of this Vintage Japanese Kamodo BBQ. But it has served me and my family well for a few years.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It's been side lined for a Weber Kettle and a GMG pellet smoker of late.

Replacement parts are hard to find for these old ceramic BBQ's. But once in a while I find some.

I need to fire the Kamodo up and make some use of it this year. Wink

Moved in to a new house with a built in Jenn Air from 2005

Manifold tube rusted out, new part NLA

I clamped a piece of fuel line with oetikers and heat shielded it, and it fired up well. Tube stays cool. 6 month inspection protocol

Just fixed up this old Turco Grill from the late 70s it was sold thru Kmart as a Charette added a little side shelf. Pretty bare bones basic but its fun for burgers brats and tube steaks I use the Weber for everything else.

Like many projects, the rust was way worse when I got into it. Away to the metal bin at the dump.

A friend left her gas grill in our yard, having no need for it. Came with a full tank of propane as well. I'd never owned one before, and only cooked on one at rental houses on Cape Cod.
Upon seeing it for the first time my son demanded the exact date I turned in my Man Card.

Last cooked: 2" thick strip steaks, perfect medium rare.

After I took the pic of the Kamodo griil the other day.
I hauled it over to the GMG pellet, Weber line up, and fired it up! Very Happy
After getting the ceramic shell warmed through (it takes a while), I cooked a pork tenderloin to perfection. Wink
