Few weeks back I recovered a 67 fastback that has been sitting since 82. I
found it incredibly important to recover the car as I noticed something in
some pics provided that got my attention immediately. The car was in an
accident and was T-boned. Luckily the young lady driving it didn’t get hurt
but was banged up a little bit. The car sat at this fellow place where over
time, bits and pieces were removed but others were placed in the trunk of
the car. By the time I came across it, it was clearly a parts car and not
much of it but there are some salvageable part. Oh, yeah, the attention
grabber for me was the dashpad…

This pad is in very good condition given its been in the trunk all these
years. Very small cracks at the corners of the speaker grill. I can only
surmise the holes in the center of the speaker grill area may have been a
compass or a hula girl or some ornament/device. There’s a little warpage
but think it can be corrected but not sure how at this moment. I’ve been
reading some threads on cleaning and applying a protectant of some sort.
From Vaseline, 303, STP and so on. While those that posted their comments
had good things to say about their products they used, notchboy made some
convincing comments on the application of Vaseline. I’m leaning this way
but first I need to remove the years of dirt in hopes of having a good
specimen.

I’ve also thought about doing repairs on other dashpads I’ve come across.
But I’m interested in possibly making a mold of this thing and vacuum
sealing a vinyl skin on a cast if the proper textured vinyl can be sourced.
If I decide to try to create a mold of this, will the protectant cause
issues? Finding this pad has been giving me thoughts on a few things and
I’m somewhat on the fence with it since I’m knee deep in my master's program so time is limited. What are your thoughts on cleaning this thing? Warm soapy water and light scrubbing? [/img]

I'd give it a try. Just try to be careful in moving it around.
