Hi all, I have just acquired my second Beetle, the first was a 73 1303S back in 1986! It's been a while. The car I bought just yesterday is a 1969 1500cc car. Here in Nairobi a friend of mine found it 3 weeks ago in a multi storey car park in the city centre. Through the security guard he made contact with the owner. The car had been in the car park for 20 years, last on the road in 2001!
It's going to be a rolling restoration as I want to have fun with it straight away. A few things need doing, a new windscreen, one of the quarterlights, new tyres, plus the brakes need looking into, but it's a runner already.
I'm going to start a YouTube channel to chronicle my exploits, here's a VERY brief introduction to a car that I have already named 'The Grey Ghost'.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r62LBPCGrw4 Feel free to subscribe, there will hopefully be a new video by this time next week. All the best |

Start with all new rubber fuel lines and then brake work, including replacing the soft lines. Time is not kind to either of these, and breaks can kill!
Post up photos as soon as you can! |

I hope this works, my first time posting a photo.
This is as she was found in the multi story car park.

Nice that it was protected all these years.
Hopefully they waived 20 years of parking fees! |

...I hadn't thought about the parking fees, at least they didn't pass them on to me! |

Latest update: we've found that the car has disc brakes fitted to the front plus it has a later AS type (1972?) gearbox fitted too. |

Have added another new video to the channel...I'm thinking we need a new set of running boards...

After 3 months I've finally added a new video to the channel. In the meantime I have come to the conclusion that the car needs a full restoration, but I'm no mechanic so will only be doing the small, easy jobs that require no skill! I'll be stripping the car myself, will (hopefully) take the engine out and smaller little resto jobs that I'll attempt myself. This is the first, the air intake. The easy ones first, right?

Just added a new short video on my YouTube channel, but it's not if my car, but you'll find it interesting anyway.
Take a look
