PostPosted: Tue Jan 03, 2012 1:23 pm    Post subject: holiday garage time Reply with quote

Got a little time over holiday vacation to get in garage. first i tried to clean up before getting into pulling fenders and starting on heater channels.

Removed banged up bumper, Pulled the fenders, access for the front clip.

Drivers A-pillar is weak. I want to get that fixed before I start replacing heater channels. I got the front 12-14 inches cut out. drilled spot welds and test fitting donor section. (pics to come)

Rear quarters do have some rust but I have original '57 repair panels

Hopefully I can save interior paint. Even if I have to spray new fenders and touch up....

Haven't had any time on the car. just ordering parts.

however i did go through the stack of service record. i believe earliest is '61. lots of fender benders. must have been a 'bad' driver'

got to looking at the mile recored and the highest found was less than 24,000!!!! That was in early 70's. To my knowledge (including plate) the car was taken off the road in the early to mid 70's

did some more diging on color - take a look at the Ghia in the second to last post of the thread below.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=384496&highlight=l417+amazon

from another thread, sounds like it was a low light color
