Cool Bus, looks like it is in better hands now with you. I don't think I have ever seen anyone remove the transaxle drain plug and "goop" it closed like that. Horrible idea!
I hope your mechanic can successfully remove the "goop" to see if it can be put back together as stock (with a functioning drain plug). Are the drain plugs at the bottom of each reduction box still there? How about the three "fill" plugs?
X2 on dumping that cheesy paper element air cleaner! Buy and install an original stock Transporter air cleaner assembly for the best function on your Bus.
Have fun with your Transporter!

Thanks Bill
This is going to be a bit of a labour of love over the next 2 or 3 weeks. As interior is currently the priority
RGB's and fillers are thankfully all present and good, what on earth the PO was doing by Masticking the drain plug, heaven only knows, were going to pull it all out and have a look what went on, and will maybe have to try a heli-coil. Just got some new boots as well, they are FEBI, so not sure how well they will work, as there's been a few negative comments about quality/longevity on these ?
Regarding Engine, I've got some parts put aside, to include a CSP quiet pack Stainless exhaust, a pair of NOS Weber IDF36's, struggled to get Velocity Stacks, but again CSP in Germany came good, 55A Alternator, new fuel pump Carb Linkage etc. etc. so maybe something for over the winter ?

The drain plugs are a tapered device, so pretty sure a Heli-Coil will not work. Even if HC did have such, would use a Time-Sert instead since they can be locked in place unlike a HC. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Thank you Eric&Barb I must admit that I did not know that.
Strip out of the Bus continues, in the cab
I think I may have hit Paydirt !!!! found a coin date is 1990, wonder if the PO in the States is still looking for it ??

Just bought an electric fuel pump ⛽️ for running with the dual IDF36’s. Bit disappointed to be honest, as didn’t want Chinese and decided on Carter Pump from the USA. It’s here ☹️
Oh well, will be fine I’m sure 🙄 looking at Pierburg now as well 😂 _________________ 1966 VW Beetle ‘Jules’

More progress, there were lots of holes drilled into the cargo area, so needed welding up, knocking back and treating.
After prep and treating, soundproofed
Some other shots

Rest of the new panels, flooring and adhesive arrived today, fitted one of the Kuhltek side scoops, they’re very well made, not sure whether to paint them later on ?

Managed to get Ply wood kit at last, and test fitting. And Doh !! Cargo doors turn out to be for RHD, whereas I'm a LHD USA spec Kombi, so the Upholstery shop will need to make sure they upholster the rough side

Not much done this weekend.
Some new deluxe trim fitted in Sea Blue, and prepping to fit the new rear bulkhead cupboard. Main problem is that the Fridge Pod I've got doesn't fit, so probably going to have to 'shorten' it.

Progress on the Bus has been a bit slow, lots of other stuff going on, but have added progress shots as of yesterday, think I can see light at the end of the Tunnel
