I just bought a 914 with a lovely 2.0 motor running dellortos and a 123 ignition.
I runs fine apart from an intermittent puff out of the vent shown below on no 4 pot.
its fine on acceleration and deceleration, however hold a speed under no load and it puffs away like a back fire. any ideas? I've heard there's a gasket mod that closes the port, is that correct?
any help grearfully received.

The engine is backfiring, probably that cylinder is lean.
Clean the idle jet.
That is the idle air bleed. You can relocate the idle air bleed to the idle holder with cb jet doctor holders but I would not bother, it doesn't work any better imo.
Need to put a screen or filter over all that to keep dirt out of the float bowl.
But of course you are free to try whatever you want, and develop your own opinion. |

Thanks Modok.
I removed the idle jets and blew everything through with a can of carb cleaner, but made little difference. So I removed the carb, stripped it and blew it through with compressed air. Bingo! Works a treat, no more backfires. Your input much appreciated |
