Hmmm…
It was better than some that have made more yet this one didn’t bring the reserve which I suspect was $20k. That would have been a deal for the buyer.
Maaco paint job?
Fuchs would have moved the needle another $10k😂 _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

I’m thinking a poor seller. He didn’t talk up the car, seemed almost disinterested. A blah seller for a blah car I guess? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Looks like a solid driver except for the nose. I feel that the combination of the colors held it back. I don’t find the purplish blue exterior paint with the too much black interior and wheels very appealing. It seems that these colors really accentuate the the very large bumpers of a 72-74 Ghia. _________________ 1956 Beetle Oval Rag top with Judson SC

No sale at $45k a year ago. Wonder if he tried to sell it for more over the past year and found the market isn’t as strong as he thought for an EV conversion? I thought at the time that $45k was a lot of money for a 70 coupe.
Some of the commenters said you don’t need a clutch to shift a four speed with an EV, but that makes no sense. The gear box doesn’t know if you have an electric motor or an engine connected to it. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

This was my full BAT comment after the end of the first go around.
"Hmmm
I know seller and BAT work out the reserve but IMO this should have been a sale.
Looking at the Ghia separately from the drivetrain it’s a well sorted car.
If it had the traditional drive train it’s a $40-$45k KG IMO.
The drivetrain is really well thought out.
Interesting that even with gas prices climbing as I type this that it didn’t do better.
Hopefully a deal can still be made."
A case of when greed is NOT good.
I hope the seller isn't trying to make a living at this. I know I wouldn't want to be taking a $7,250 hit _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

It seemed like it was built to make a profit? He kept talking about his partner and the car has very few miles I think? He claimed $25k for the EV conversion and $25k for the car, which seems pretty high. I hope he at least broke even but knowing what it cost to build a car I highly doubt it. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Something doesn’t add up here unless I’m missing something.
Current owner bought the car in 2021.
Porsche engine was removed after that at some point, 2022 or 2023.
Engine was built in 2018.
Compression numbers are low.
Owner claims VW engine with non matching air cleaners is “new.” _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

$19k Sold
So I guess that means the Porsche powerplant that was with this one when sold in September 2021 was worth $15,888?
At any rate I think someone got a sharp driver for a very fair price. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

The add said dash pad restored, which did you purchase? I picked one up, a d it was urethane and floppy. Aside from sending the wrong pad, I was not impressed with it. I am leaning toward pulling my original and having it recovered in leather.

Hello fellow AirCooled addicts
I am considering selling my Lowlight that many of you here know well. She won best stock Ghia at the Vintage Rare Air when she was still stock. She has changed a bit since then.
Here is a link to my thread where I just uploaded current photos and videos.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10068705#10068705
I would really like your opinions of what she is worth in the current market.
I have been talking to BAT but there are also other places I could try like Hagerty.
Thanks |
