We are all entitled to be grumpy curmudgeons with the insane driving habits, but the fun of of the journey is sitting behind the wheel of your well restored Ts while the bold faced stuff above happens.

If being grumpy is a persons happy place then embrace the grumpiness.

New Oil Pressure Gauge!
About two years ago when I got this Van on the road I insisted on gauges.
I liked the idea of digital gauges and purchased an engine oil pressure gauge and an auto trans temp gauge.
They worked but right off the bat the night time brightness was blinding!
They have an automatic dim but it is one step and goes from blindingly bright to simply bright.
It was si bright that I would drive at night with my hat over tge ashtray gauge cluster!
Over time, the black bezels began cracking and crazing, eventually the bezels turned from black to brushed bronze. As more time passed they became a brass color.
Then the brass bezels popped off and the glass and digital displays fell off onto the floor!
I kept putting them back together but it was an exercise in futility.
The final straw was when I pulled the engine in the Fall I disconnected the oil pressure sender wires.
Upon reassembly one of the screw terminals broke off! And only finger tight!
What kind of SH$# is this product?!?
A new sender was almost $50 with shipping.
I'm done with after market digital gauges.......
I don't like the gauge anyway so I shopped around and landed on an Auto-Gauge Oil Pressure kit.
To keep it affordable I opted for a black face with a chrome bezel.
It cost about $100 ...... black on black were pushing $200.....
Being 55° And Sunny in mid February I installed it today.
The gauge has an incandescent bulb so it should dim like the cluster.
I'll try this gauge for a bit and if I like it I'll get the matching Temperature gauge.
Advice? RUN don't walk AWAY FROM JEGS PRODUCTS!!!

I have that same pod but use the VDO 0-80 psi gauge. It shows increments of 10. _________________ '90 Carat w/ '95 phase 1 EJ22 OBD2 conversion |

So on Monday I smelled a light whiff of gasoline as I walked up to my Van to start it in the morning after sitting all weekend.
It was wet and chilly and while I looked, my search for the source was fairly quick and limited.
On Tuesday the weather wasn't much better, the smell was still there and I looked a little harder checking out the main fuel smell culprits but they were dry.
This afternoon (Wednesday) I walked to my Van at the end of the day (Sunny and dry) and the smell was almost overwhelming!
I was parked on dry asphalt so I began wiggling under the Van (I'm sized like that...... no jacks needed) checking the vapor tanks, the fill hose and the hoses feeding the fuel pump........
AH HA!
Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip about as fast as you read those words gasoline was dripping off of my fuel pump!
Turns out the 12mm hose at the pump was gravity leaking pretty seriously.
Grabbed my travel tool box in the Van and found the fuel hose clamp to be surprisingly loose!
Tightened it up and cleaned it off.
I checked the other clamps in the area but they were all tight.
The leak stopped after tightening but I noticed the lower rubber fuel pump mount is broken.
I wonder if the twisting of the fuel pump due to the broken mount was loosening the clamp?
Oh well, somewhere in my stash of parts I have rubber mounts....... a good quick weekend task....... better than cutting the lawn which I've yet to do this year!
Why do today that which can be put off until tomorrow?

Well........ last night my Van got a younger brother.
An 06 New Beetle Convertible.
Needs some cosmetic work for the owner caught a deer on the RF. Happiky it was a glancing blow with only shattered plastic.
It also needs a good cleaning, I'll pull the seats and give everything a good cleaning!
Happily it wasn't a smokers car.
It runs strong (2,5 engine) and the Auto Trans shifts well.

Nice Dave.
Declipping that is a breeze and a good time to inspect the radiator and replace cooling group hoses. You want a power driver to undo all those torx on the clip
Check that the recall on the airbag sensors might apply to that year? They are also buried under that clip _________________ .ssS! |
