As the title suggests, 4 of the studs holding my oil plate cover came out when removing the acorn nuts. One of them is quite longer than the others but it didn't come from the pickup tube side. Any ideas as to how to keep them in? Did a whole bunch of nuts come loose inside? This oil change is not going well for some reason. Thank you in advance.

I would clean the snot out of the holes with carb cleaner and use red Loktite to hold the studs in.

Thank you. Do the studs only go up so far and stop or do I need to leave a certain amount of thread exposed?

You need to leave enough out to mount the gaskets, screen and cover.

But not too much that the acorn nuts bottom out before being snug against the plate.

Of you can just use regular nuts.
