|
|
So, after many years of sitting and being lazy, I am finally starting on the Mini Hearse.
Today was spent on the rear brakes…got as far as I could, but now have to spend some money, so back on hold.
Today I removed all brake hardware and parts, installed new wheel cylinders. While I am in there, I figured I would go ahead and replace the bearings, also need to replace brake lines, I believe they are original. Thus the need for funds.
Hopefully the drums are turnable, as that will save $$$.
Replaced stoppers. |

You don't have to replace Everything.
I only take One side of my brakes apart at a time.
Test drive it and then only replace what is Bad.
Get it running/driving as your first priority!
I only had to replace one soft rubber front brake hose on my 69.
New brake lines will be needed only If they are leaking.
Drive it while you restore it! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I have my local Car Quest cut the bare minimum on the drums. You don't want them to take any more than needed to get them round again, as they aren't very thick when new. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Currently, there is no brake fluid in the lines, so might as well replace what needs to be replaced. Rubber and metal lines are definitely showing their age.
I already have the rubber lines, so that is money already spent…
I still have plenty of other things to work on that don’t require $$$, so might as well do it right.
Still have the sunroof and wiring to do, and clean out the gas tank. |

I overhauled my rear end too with new bearings and brakes. Those parking brake adjusters caused me lots of grief, they were rusted to the backing plates and simply would not budge. For the bearings, ACDelco wheelbearing grease is what I used, and a FWD wheel hub press from Autozone. Worked well enough.
I love the look of this thing. Very gnarly. |
